dragon’s tale

Commissioned by West Hoathly Primary School, West Sussex for their outside classroom.

Very much an ‘active engage’ project. Starting point was an introduction at assembly
asking how the children would like to see their new Story Teller’s Chair.
From all the children’s drawings, stories, art works a final design was developed.
Oak for the project was selected from the Royal Botanic Gardens at Wakehurst Place,
West Sussex. The whole school visited to choose the tree to make their chair and were
also involved in tree planting creating a sense of ‘origin of materials’ and understanding
of where wood comes from.
Small group activity workshops took place at the school over a period of 3 days to help
make all the fin elements in the back post of the chair to create active participation and a
feeling of collective ownership of the final work.
