In a new landscape of constantly evolving perceptions, views and inspirations "Izerom" came into existence. After much re-working of drawings, thinking and ideas, the aim was to find a more refined simplistic geometry within a proven existing construction design formula. I wanted to create a chair with supreme comfort, whilst also utilizing a more visually satisfying minimalism within its design.

"Izerom" has a long slender ergonomically carved back panel, which comprises of multi planar curvatures to follow the form of the human back whilst seated in a positively supported manner.

This is connected with a large tongue through joint into the seat base, which in turn is wedged tight on the underside. This is by no means a new or novel construction technique. It is a centuries old tried and trusted method of jointing practiced widely in many different woodworking traditions. The Basis point in the "Izerom" chair is of the old Welsh back/spinning stools. A single narrow piece for the backrest was wedged through into the seat. These chairs and stools were very much utilitarian items. Often three legged for stability on uneven ground. The narrow back, usually flat and sometimes embellished with folk art carvings, allowed unrestricted arm and shoulder movement. However, the back panel was generally not comfortable to sit on for longer periods. With "Izerom" I wanted to utilize the simplicity of construction found in many "primitive" designs and combine it with a good functional, ergonomic and comfortable form, while taking a more geometric simplistic outline. This chair develops aspects of previous chair designs such as the "Kyoto" and "Teller" chair patterns whilst also unifying something of the simplistic poiginacy of a previous chair form "Pol".
