The p2p project represents the development of a clients wish for a sculpturally animated, interactive
seating scheme. Allowing up to 4 people to sit within and on the piece. One of the original concepts behind
the brief was to provide a seating platform where one sitter could, for example, massage the shoulders or
head of the sitter in front, or just below them. p2p also allows one to be sat with their back against one
of the large "posts" and their feet up against the other. This gives rise to the working title p2p or
"post to pillar". Images here depict the work during initial carving & at 1st stage completion.

p2p has been a challenge in terms of the seating dynamics, where a sitter or group can sit in so many varied postures in comfort. This is partly aided by the use of different sized ends. This allows a larger person to be more comfy on the taller side of the piece while the smaller end is more suited to smaller body proportions. This twin sizing also relates within the concept of "person to person" interactions within the piece. It is possible to see the "posts" as two bodies with out-stretched limbs greeting/joining each other adding to the animated interactive feel of the work. The low set "wave form" seating board has saddle carved positions for 2 people. It allows face to face, face to back, back to back or off side sitting to create multi use seating positions.
Carved from 360 mm x 360mm oak blocks with the seat board carved from sweet chestnut.
Within most of my creations I am happy when I feel a piece can "talk, breathe & live". p2p certainly begins to do this & as such moves excitingly towards its final stage completion.
