Zürisee Bench is a seating project developed to hang rather than rely on a typical leg arrangment to support the structure. The clients wishes were for a seat to be placed against the boat house wall, a lovely morining sun spot, especially in early spring & Autumn whereby the wall acts as a gentle passive solar storage heater.
The Zürisee Bench represents a prime example of site specific seating taking into account the design constraints of the situation. The prime reason for creating a hanging scheme is the lack of a soild ground base at the location. This however becomes a design feature where a solution is found to suspend the stainless steel bench sub frame from 6mm diameter stainless steel cables. The scheme uses an oak slatted deck seat & a back rest, which is indepently mounted to the wall. Fixing to the conrete boat house wall was achieved with the use of anchor bolts. Providing good, solid contact location points for the mounting hardwear supplied by "Jakob AG". www.jakob.ch
This design provides comfortable seating for 3 people with generous width armrests & ample space for glasses, cups & coffee pots.
